MONTPELIER — Applications are open for grants to support neighborhood connections. Montpelier Alive, through its Capital Connection program, has announced the launch of the Block Party Grant Program, a new funding opportunity designed to support neighborhood gatherings and community-building events across Washington County.
A limited pool of funding is available for grants ranging from $200 to $500. Funding will be awarded to individuals, neighborhood groups, informal community organizers, or community entities seeking support for the planning and implementation of a block party, neighborhood gathering, or similar community event within Washington
County.
Eligible events may include block parties, neighborhood potlucks, welcome gatherings, community cookouts, porch gatherings, or other informal events designed to bring neighbors together. Events should be open and welcoming to neighbors or community members in the intended area and should focus on strengthening connection, belonging, and community resilience.
“We know that one of the most important parts of feeling at home in a community is knowing your neighbors,” said Katie Trautz, executive director of Montpelier Alive. “Through Capital Connection, we are excited to support small, welcoming gatherings that help residents build relationships and feel more connected to the places they live.”
Priority will be given to applications that generate connections among neighbors, create welcoming opportunities for new residents, reduce isolation, strengthen neighborhood networks, demonstrate collaboration, or serve an area or population that may benefit from additional community-building support.
Applicants should clearly explain their event idea, what the funds will be used for, why the support is needed, and how the event will benefit the neighborhood or community. Eligible expenses may include food and non-alcoholic refreshments, event supplies, basic decorations, printing or outreach materials, tables, chairs, tents, family-friendly activities, or modest entertainment costs. Grant funds may not be used for alcohol, political fundraising or campaign activity, personal purchases unrelated to the event, or expenses incurred before grant approval unless specifically authorized.
Applications opened July 20 and must be submitted electronically on or before Aug. 3 at 11:59 p.m. Applicants will be notified of funding decisions by Aug. 10.
The application form is available at forms.gle/75SWzG3qFiXFhdYp7. Responses require a google account for submission. If you have any issues with filling out the application please contact festivals@montpelieralive.org.
