Get ready to embrace the season at Montpelier MudFest, a weekend-long celebration of Vermont’s iconic mud season, happening April 25–26 in downtown Montpelier.
“The idea behind MudFest is to embrace mud season instead of run from it,” said Alec Ellsworth, parks director for the city of Montpelier. “We’re building off the long-running Muddy Onion event to invite the community to play in the mud with a weekend of fun, adventure, and appreciation for Vermont’s fifth season.”
This year’s event lineup embraces the season with a mix of outdoor challenges, local craftsmanship, and downtown festivities.
All weekend, there will be live music downtown, great food, and plenty to explore. Browse local shops, enjoy some of the best dining in central Vermont, and take in the fresh evening air as you stroll Montpelier’s glowing bridges.
Saturday, April 25 features the Muddy Onion Gravel Grinder. This classic central Vermont event is organized by Onion River Outdoors and attracts over 700 riders. Cyclists will tackle Vermont’s scenic dirt roads, choosing from three challenging routes: 20, 40, or 60 miles. Downtown, the Gear Makers Festival showcases Vermont-made outdoor gear, goods, and apparel, with opportunities to meet the makers and shop local. Barr Hill will host the Muddy Onion After Party with music, grilling, and, of course, cocktails.
On Sunday, April 26, the Mucker Mud Run, hosted by Green Mountain Community Fitness, wraps up the weekend with an adventure through Hubbard Park. Participants can choose from a relaxed 5K hike, a weighted ruck, or a fast-paced run, while young adventurers can take on the Mini Mucker course on the Statehouse lawn.
