The March 28 No Kings Rally was well attended, and it was so very cold that day that many rally enthusiasts had to leave early and missed the skit based on the Dickens Christmas Carol: Democracy Yet to Come.
The vision of Ginny Sassaman, writing of Cynthia Bogard and input from the cast, combined for an important and inspiring depiction of our times past, present, and hopefully future.
Democracy Past Abigail Adams, played by Kayla Becker states, “Human Rights, Freedoms, and Justice are worth fighting for.”
Democracy Present, played by Wren Perchlik, “You must vote as if your life depends on it, for it surely does.”
Democracy Yet to Come: Played by Lila Crowley: “Only the morally sound among us are elected leaders,” “No more billionaires,” “Our press is vibrant but well researched and just,” “We welcome newcomers,” “Healthcare, childcare, and education for all,” “ We feed and house all in our nation,” “Full transition to non-polluting fuels,” “We treasure and care for our natural world,” “Our alliances are strong and the trust in us by other nations is solid,” and more.
Citizen, played by David Schutz, says: “You have given me hope,” and “If we take action that is loving and kind, the power of the people is stronger than the people in power.”

Democracy Discussions
To the Editor:
I am a member of a local group named Pro Democracy. Part of our effort to strengthen our democracy is to have respectful discussions about the times we are living in and the policies and actions of our federal and state governments.
We are particularly interested in having in-person discussions with people who may have opinions and understandings that we might not have. Our goal is not to win an argument but to seek understanding and share our own thoughts.
As a group we do not all hold the same opinions but share the deep concern that our democracy and democratic institutions are in deep trouble. We do not know how each of us votes because it does not matter for this effort. We believe that different political commitments, respectfully discussed, is what democracy is all about.
