Solomon Valle, 32, the same man arrested for assaulting multiple people behind Christ Church in Montpelier in March, was arrested again for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend April 9 at their shared tent in an encampment at 168 Ames Drive in Berlin. The situation unfolded when a Berlin police officer patrolling the area near the encampments heard a woman calling for help, according to a police report. The officer found her barefoot on the railroad tracks and “covered in a substantial amount of blood.”
The woman reported she had been assaulted by her boyfriend (Valle), with whom she lives at the encampment. Police brought her to the hospital for treatment, but Valle had fled the scene before the officer arrived. Police found Valle with the assistance of Barre Probation and Parole and brought him to the Northeast Correctional Complex. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 13.
The Vermont Daily Chronicle also reported that Valle, then 25, was reportedly homeless when he attacked a woman and tried to rip off her pants in 2019 in Plainfield, according to police and media reports. He also had a retail theft arrest.
The Berlin police noted in their report: “Domestic violence is not a private matter — it is a community emergency. Silence allows abuse to continue, while support can save lives. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911.
