On Saturday, April 12, the Great Green Mountain Bob Dylan Wannabe Contest takes place at the Capital City Grange at 6612 Vermont Route 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. This longtime favorite offers contestants an opportunity to win first, second, and third prizes as they seek the title of Best Bob Dylan Wannabe from a small group of judges.
“This is a very fun event for the entire community,” said co-organizer and musician Bronwyn Fryer. “And these days, we need all the fun we can get! We think, given the popularity of the recent movie about Dylan (“A Complete Unknown”) that people will be especially interested in coming out to hear how their musical neighbors pay tribute to a great American songwriter.”
The event will benefit the People’s Health and Wellness Clinic at 51 Church Street in Barre. For 30 years, the People’s Health and Wellness Clinic has brought free essential healthcare services to residents of central Vermont who are uninsured or cannot afford to see a doctor. Donations to the clinic will be accepted at the door.
“I’m so excited to help bring this event back,” noted Ginny Sassaman, whose husband Bob once placed third in this contest. “I love that central Vermont can have fun while supporting the crucial mission of the People’s Health and Wellness Clinic. The clinic’s work has always been important, but now with Trump insisting on drastic Medicaid cuts, raising money for the clinic is more important than ever.”

“At the People’s Health and Wellness Clinic, we believe no one should have to be ‘Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door’ just because they can’t afford healthcare,” said Daniel Barlow, PHWC executive director. “Community support keeps us going, and this event is a perfect way to come together, enjoy some great music, and make a real difference.”
