Both of Montpelier’s incumbent Democratic/Progressive state representatives are running unopposed.
Rep. Kate McCann has represented Montpelier in the Washington-4 district since 2023 and is also a public high school statistics teacher. According to the Vermont Legislature website, McCann is an active union member, has provided K-12 counsel in Washington, D.C., and when she served on the legislative Pensions Benefit, Design and Funding task force, her recommendations were drafted into law “unanimously supported by both the House and Senate.” In VTDigger’s Election Guide McCann said she will prioritize healthcare, housing, and transparency in school funding — ensuring money goes to public schools not private schools.
Rep. Conor Casey has also served as a state representative since 2023 and is a former Montpelier City Councilor. On the Vermont Legislature website, Casey said growing up in both the U.S. and Ireland is why he has a lifelong interest in workers rights and political activism. He has worked as an organizer for the Vermont NEA and is currently the executive director of Gun Sense, a nonprofit with the goal of reducing gun violence in Vermont. Casey, also a playwright, will be reading from his latest play “Under the World Tree” at the Montpelier Performing Arts Hub on Friday, Nov. 1.
