MONTPELIER — Capital City Concerts launches its 27th season under the leadership of Vermont’s own Jillian Reed, flute, and Tyler Emerson, piano, with a quartet from Palaver Strings. They will be performing French Romantic era works dedicated to musical mentors and friends — the relationships which fuel the continued performance and composition of chamber music. In that spirit, the concert opens with the U.S. premiere of a 2022 work by composer Filip Holacký.
After their Farmer’s Night performance in a packed Statehouse in February, Capital City Concerts is thrilled to welcome back a string quartet from Grammy-nominated Palaver Strings (Maïthéna Girault & Maya French, violin; Brianna Fischler, viola; and Matt Smith, cello) to delight Montpelier audiences once again. They will be performing alongside CCC’s new Artistic Directors, flutist Jillian Reed and pianist Tyler Emerson.
The concert features the U.S. premier of Filip Holacký’s Quartet for Flute, Violin, Cello, and Piano, followed by performances of French masterpieces: Ravel’s treasured String Quartet in F major dedicated to composer Gabriel Fauré and two rarely-performed gems written by French women: Germaine Tailleferre’s String Quartet dedicated to pianist Artur Rubinstein, and Cleménce De Grandval’s Suite for Flute and Piano dedicated to composer and flutist Paul Taffanel.
The concert will be held at the Unitarian Church of Montpelier on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m., with a reception to follow. Tickets are available at capitalcityconcerts.org.
