About 70 athletes of all ages converged on the newly rebuilt Montpelier High School track on Friday, August 21, for the Nathan Suter Track Celebration put together by Central Vermont runners and the Montpelier Roxbury schools. The event honored Suter, who was instrumental in starting the track program at Main Street Middle School, and to inaugurate the new track. Suter died in 2025.
“The hope was to provide an event that would bring the community together and inspire some ‘serious fun’ competition, while honoring and remembering how Nathan brought so many of us together (especially at the track),” said MSMS coach Dylan Broderick.
Dot Helling of Central Vermont Runners, Jim Eikenberry and Broderick coordinated the event with a host of volunteers. Mayor Marc Gwinn donated his time and talent to provide music for more than two hours and Brigitte Savard oversaw the Solon Sizzle food truck.
