MONTPELIER — It has been a busy month for Montpelier police, who recently lost four key employees including the chief and deputy chief. The following are a small selection of entries from the Montpelier Police Department’s recent logs.
July 26
On July 26, there was a report of stolen items at the Dog River Park and Ride. Also at the Park and Ride, Derek Malbroux, 29, unhoused, was arrested for aggravated domestic assault. Malbroux was jailed for lack of bail and was scheduled to be arraigned on July 27.
There was a report of simple assault on Main Street, and reports of suspicious persons on Main Street, Barre Street, and Berlin Street.
There was also a report of alcohol and cannabis use in public and several traffic stops on Emmons Street, Main Street, and College Street.
The Montpelier Police Department assisted the Montpelier Fire Department with a structure fire on Pioneer Street.
Robert Jackman, 37, of Barre, was arrested for suspicion of DUI. He was cited into Washington County Superior Court, Criminal Division, at a later date for arraignment.
July 25
Someone reported “transients” on State Street arguing over a blanket on July 25, and in a separate report, a representative from Christ Church asked police to help move individuals off their property. Earlier a verbal disturbance among a group of individuals outside Christ Church prompted calls for help.
Police were called to intervene at a verbal dispute between two individuals outside of city hall.
Someone reported an assault on Elm Street that remains under investigation, while another disturbance was reported in front of city hall, and a person was issued a trespass notice from a day shelter on Barre Street.
Items were stolen from a vehicle on Pleasant Street and unrelated suspicious activity was reported on River Street, in addition to a disturbance reported on Main Street at Trinity Church.
July 24
“Transients” were reportedly arguing on Main Street, and someone vandalized flower planters. Also on Main Street, a disturbance involving unhoused people was reported. And on Franklin Street someone reported cannabis use in public. More “disturbances” were reported on Main Street and at Christ Church.
July 23
A bear got into a dumpster on Greenwood Terrace. Someone reported missing rabbits on Loomis Street. Montpelier Police assisted the Montpelier Fire Department with a small fire behind Another Way on Barre Street.
Domestic assaults were reported on High School Drive and someone vandalized the Old Shelter in Hubbard Park. Also, someone reported a male driving an electric bike recklessly on East State Street.
July 21
Food items were reportedly stolen from a retail operation on Stone Cutters Way.
Police were called to remove an encampment from the Trinity Church property, suspicious persons were reportedly going door to door, and a disturbance was reported at Memorial Drive and Taylor Street.
A State Street employee requested to be escorted from their last day at work.
July 20
Misbah Abdul-Kareem, 41, unhoused, was arrested for unlawful trespass and violation of conditions of release. He was cited to appear in the Washington County Superior Court. Also, John Mallery, age 39, of Montpelier, was arrested for excessive speed and disorderly conduct on State Street. He was also cited into Washington County Superior Court.

BARRE — Barre had its share of police activity recently as well, especially during the Heritage Festival.
July 29
A suspicious person was reportedly laying on the ground in front of the city hall lobby. There was a domestic disturbance on East Street, and police were asked to check on two individuals, possibly under the influence of drugs, on Washington Street.
Someone reported a public disagreement on North Seminary Street, while police reportedly issued a woman a trespass order after she entered the homeless shelter on Seminary Street and became disorderly, which violated shelter policies.
A man reportedly trespassed into an occupied dwelling on Seminary Street and kicked a hole in the wall. Police were not able to make contact with him later. A family disturbance was reported on South Main Street.
A man found under a bridge on South Main Street was arrested for an outstanding arrest warrant, with $500 bail. And a call came in about an intoxicated male at City Hall Park, while two juveniles reportedly vandalized the Spaulding High School baseball field with toilet paper.
Someone complained about “transients” loitering by city hall, but no one was found by police. Someone else complained about a suspicious male loitering by the Auditorium/BOR. He was gone on arrival.
July 28
Threats and harassment were reported at the Kitty Korner Cafe on North Main Street and someone reportedly threw a brick through a window on Church Street.
Police responded to a disturbance on Bergeron Street.
July 26
A suspicious person was reportedly going into stores destroying items on North Main Street. That person was issued no trespass orders. And a different suspicious event happened on Brook Street, where gunshots were reported. However, when police got there, gunshots were not heard. Additionally, an individual was reportedly going through vehicles on Vine Street.
July 25
Many incidents happened during the Barre Heritage Festival, beginning with a report of a juvenile who lost her dad. Someone also reported a disturbance on North Main Street, and a fire alarm was sounded from a vacant second story apartment on Brook Street. No smoke or flames were found to be coming from the building.
Disorderly conduct was reported at Summer Street Auto, where a large fight allegedly occurred and a firearm was allegedly brandished. Another disturbance was reported on North Main Street. And a caller reported a male to be slumped over on Seminary Street, but police found the subject to be “completely fine” and considered this an unsubstantiated complaint.
And finally, a juvenile was reportedly intoxicated at City Hall Park and police responded to a report of a male bothering vendors at the Barre Heritage Festival. Police also responded to a report of an attempted drug sale on Merchant Street.
