MONTPELIER — City Councilor Adrienne Gil announced her resignation from the Montpelier City Council effective July 22, according to a city press release.
Gil, who represents District 1, was first elected in 2024 and re-elected in March.
Under the city charter, the remaining council members will appoint a replacement to fill the vacancy. Voters will then elect someone to fill the unexpired term on Town Meeting Day, March 2, 2027. The council is expected to discuss the appointment process at its July 22 meeting.
“This decision was not made lightly,” Gil said in the release. “As the demands of my full-time career, my family, and my health continue to grow, I know this is the right time to step away.”
During her tenure, Gil served on the Country Club Road Subcommittee and sponsored the Child Care Task Force and the Economic Development Subcommittee. The city said she also helped establish a metrics-based performance evaluation process for the city manager and supported development of the city council’s strategic plan.
