From city council and mayor to the Parks and Cemetery commissions, Montpelier candidates running for office on this year’s Town Meeting Day are mostly running unopposed. However, four candidates are running for three seats on the Montpelier Roxbury Public Schools district board.

Three Incumbents, No Challengers

Three incumbent candidates are running unopposed to fill their city council seats for another term: Adrienne Gil (District 1), Sal Alfano (District 2), and Cary Brown (District 3) will all be on this year’s Town Meeting Day, March 6, ballot.

One Candidate for Mayor

Marc Gwinn is running unopposed for the role of mayor; current Montpelier Mayor Jack McCullough has said he is not running again. Gwinn, a financial advisor with Edward Jones, is also a teacher, musician, and father. He has served on the Montpelier Commission for Recovery and Resilience, which was developed after the 2023 flood, and is a member of the Montpelier Rotary Club. Gwinn has scheduled three listening sessions to hear from the public: one has already happened, and the others are on Feb. 7 (from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.) and Feb. 21 (from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.), both at the East Montpelier Room of the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. He is also available to chat over coffee on Friday mornings at Café Noa (at 8 Putnam Street, Montpelier) from 8 to 8:50 a.m. weekly throughout the month of February.

Parks and Cemetery Commissions

Mattison Brady and Rebecca Copans are both running for a five-year seat on the Montpelier Parks Commission. And three candidates are running for three open seats on the Cemetery Commission: Darragh Ellerson, Jason Kass, and Danielle Harris-Burnett.

School Board

Also, according to Montpelier’s online voter guide (montpelier-vt.org/922/City-Voter-Guide), four candidates — Kristin Cantu, Anthony L. Iarrapino, Justin E. Tease, and Ella Yeargin — are running to fill three seats on the Montpelier Roxbury Public Schools district board. Tammy Legacy is the sole candidate for the MRPS clerk, and Lyman Castle is the only candidate for the Central Vermont Career Center board.
